Churn Rate Calculator
Measure how fast you lose customers and revenue. Enter your period's numbers to get customer & revenue churn, retention, annualised churn and average customer lifetime.
Your period (monthly)
Retention curve: share of today's cohort still subscribed each month at this churn rate.
Customer churn vs revenue churn
Customer churn = customers lost ÷ customers at the start of the period. Revenue churn = MRR lost ÷ MRR at the start, it can differ a lot from customer churn if your churned accounts are bigger or smaller than average. A small monthly number compounds: 3% monthly churn means roughly 30% of a cohort is gone within a year. Average customer lifetime is 1 ÷ churn rate, so cutting churn from 3% to 2% stretches lifetime from 33 to 50 months and raises LTV.
Worked example: a 500-customer SaaS month
A company starts the month with 500 customers and $50,000 of MRR, loses 15 customers and $2,000 of MRR to cancellations and downgrades.
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Customers at start | 500 |
| Customers lost | 15 |
| MRR at start | $50,000 |
| MRR lost (churned + contraction) | $2,000 |
| Revenue churn (2,000 ÷ 50,000) | 4.0% |
| Retention rate (1 − 3.0%) | 97.0% |
| Annualised churn (1 − 0.9712) | 30.6% |
| Average customer lifetime (1 ÷ 3.0%) | 33 months |
| Monthly customer churn (15 ÷ 500) | 3.0% |
Revenue churn (4.0%) is above customer churn (3.0%) here, so the accounts that left were larger than average.
What is a good monthly churn rate in 2026?
Pick your segment in the "Compare with" menu above and the calculator puts your number next to the published median. The retention studies report annual gross revenue retention (GRR), so the calculator converts it to a monthly revenue churn with 1 − GRR1/12, which assumes churn is spread evenly across the year:
| Segment | Median annual GRR | ≈ Monthly revenue churn | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Private B2B SaaS, all | 91% | 0.78% | SaaS Capital 2025 |
| Month-to-month contracts | 89% | 0.97% | SaaS Capital 2025 |
| Multi-year contracts | 94% | 0.51% | SaaS Capital 2025 |
| Contracts above $250K a year | 95% | 0.43% | SaaS Capital 2025 |
| ACV under $5K | 80% | 1.84% | Benchmarkit 2026 |
| ACV $50K to $100K | 91% | 0.78% | Benchmarkit 2026 |
The two studies measure different populations, so read them side by side rather than as one scale: SaaS Capital surveys more than 1,000 private B2B SaaS companies; Benchmarkit's all-company median GRR for calendar 2025 is 84%, down from 88% a year earlier, against what it calls an 85% to 90% goal. For customer (logo) churn, the most cited medians are ChartMogul's: 6.1% a month for products under $25 a month and 2.2% above $500 a month, from 2022 data (ChartMogul). The churn and retention guide covers what drives the differences.
